A mentor marketplace with Uber-style payment splitting

The problem

A mentorship marketplace needed a single client payment to split automatically between the platform and the mentor, per session, with commission varying by mentor tier, something Wix's native payment tools have no concept of.

What was built

• Dual-role registration with separate onboarding for mentors and students
• Role-based access control so each user type sees only what their role allows
• Stripe Express integration, every mentor connects their own Stripe account at registration
• Automatic split payments: platform fee retained, mentor payout routed on every transaction
• Firebase real-time chat between student and mentor after booking
• Email workflows triggered at registration, booking, payment and confirmation
